This Privacy Policy and Cookie Statement applies to anyone visiting the website “www.eulacfoundation.org” of the European Union – Latin America and Caribbean Foundation (“ EU-LAC Foundation”). We want to inform visitors about the way we use personal data and cookies.

Personal data are particulars about the personal or material circumstances of a specific or identifiable natural person (e.g. name, address, e-mail-address, telephone number).

1. Collection, processing and use of Personal data

1.1 Visiting our website and contacting us

Visitors can normally use our website without entering personal data. In some cases, if a visitor decides to provide us with personal information, or other information through e-mail or contact form, the EU-LAC Foundation will store and use visitor’s information only for the intended purpose of the communication. This data is deleted when it is no longer required for the intended purpose.

1.2 Server Data

For technical reasons, the EU-LAC Foundation receives data about the visitors, which the visitor’s internet browser transmits to the EU-LAC Foundation or its web space provider (so-called server log files). This data is the following:

- type and version of the browser the visitor uses

- operating system the visitor uses

- website that linked the visitor to the website of the EU-LAC Foundation (referrer URL)

- date and time of the visit

- quantity of data transmitted

- IP-address

This data is stored separately from any personal information the visitor may have provided, which means that it is impossible to connect this data to any particular person. All of the data is anonymous, hence user profiles cannot be created with the personal data. The EU-LAC Foundation uses the data to identify trends and compile statistics (e.g. the number of users). This is done anonymously via Google Analytics, a service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google” - further information about Google Analytics and visitor’s possibilties of objection can be found under clause 2.). The EU-LAC Foundation receives anonymous and aggregated data about the use of this site, how often various articles or subpages of our website are called up, or the browser (such as Firefox, Internet Explorer) being used. The EU-LAC Foundation uses this information to better match the site to visitors’ needs.

1.3 Use of Cookies

On certain pages so-called cookies are used. Cookies are small text files that the visitor’s internet browser downloads and stores on visitor’s computer/device. Cookies are used to improve the website and services. In most cases these are so-called “session cookies” that are deleted once the visitor leaves the website of the EU-LAC Foundation. Cookies pass along information used to automatically recognize the visitor through an IP-address saved to the cookies. Most browsers are programmed to accept cookies automatically. These cookies ensure that certain data is retained for the time when one uses the website.

We place cookies for Drupal (CMS), for proper functioning of this website, to gather anonymous visitor statistics through Google Analytics (see clause 2.) and for playing Vimeo and YouTube videos (see clause 3.). The EU-LAC Foundation uses cookies to anonymously gather statistics, and does not share this information with other parties. The cookie-related information is not used to identify you personally. These cookies are not used for any purpose other than those described here.

The Drupal Cookies must be used, otherwise the website will not function. All other Cookies will only be placed after the visitor clicks “Allow Cookies” in the bar at the bottom of the website. Enabling these cookies is not strictly necessary for the website to work but it will provide you with a better browsing experience.

Possibilities of objection:

To prevent cookies from being installed, visitors can deactivate the storing of cookies in the browser settings or adjust their browser to accept cookies only for the duration of the internet session, but if you do that some features of this site may not work as intended. You can find more information on enabling, disabling and deleting cookies in the Help function of your browser.

2. Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. (“Google”). Google Analytics uses “cookies”, which are text files placed on visitor’s computer, to help the website analyze how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about visitor’s use of the website (such as time, place and frequency of his/her visits, including his/her IP-address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. In using Google Analytics the EU-LAC Foundation employs the so-called IP anonymisation by employing the extension “_anonymise Ip()”. In doing so, Google will truncate/anonymise the last octet of the IP-address before transferring it from Member States of the European Union or signatory states to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases, the full IP-address is sent to and shortened by Google servers in the USA. On behalf of the website provider Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating visitors’ use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage to the website provider. Google states that it will not associate visitors’ IP-addresses with any other data held by Google.

Possibilities of objection:

Visitors may refuse the use of cookies by NOT selecting “Allow cookies”. However, by doing so, visitors may not be able to use the full functionality of this website.

Furthermore visitors can prevent Google’s collection and use of data (cookies and IP-address) by downloading and installing the browser plug-in available under: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=de

Alternatively or if visitor accesses the website from a mobile device, he/she can prevent the above-described acquisition and processing of data by Google Analytics on this website in the future by clicking on the link below, so an opt-out cookie is placed on his/her device. If visitor deletes his/her cookies, he/she will need to click the link again:
