In view of the global health crisis, UNESCO World Higher Education Conference initially planned to be held in 2021, will take place from 18 to 20 May 2022 in Barcelona, Spain. UNESCO is organising the WHEC2022 to offer new knowledge, innovative ideas creative alliances, and to produce an enlarged and reinvigorated coalition of the global higher education community in favour of the 2030 Agenda for Development and beyond.

UNESCO World Higher Education Conference (WHEC2022) aims at reshaping ideas and practices in higher education to ensure sustainable development for the planet and humanity. The 3rd World Higher Education Conference (WHEC2022) will bring together relevant stakeholders to define and prepare a roadmap for a new era of higher education. This roadmap will respond to the challenges faced by humanity and the planet, with special attention to the global disruption created by the COVID-19. It will look at both the higher education systems (norms, policies, structures, stakeholders) and institutions (universities, specialised entities, networks).

UNESCO kindly extended an invitation to the EU-LAC Foundation to organise a roundtable on Open Science at this Conference on 19 May, 14.30-16:00 (CEST).

Open Science is a key tool “to make multilingual scientific knowledge openly available, accessible and reusable for everyone” (UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science) and to promote inclusive academic cooperation and policy-making in science and research. With this roundtable, the EU-LAC Foundation, jointly with its partner OBREAL Global, aim to facilitate a space to generate dialogue between distinguished speakers from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean to share innovative experiences and approaches to Open Science and to identify venues to strengthen cooperation in Open Science between Higher Education institutions and their associations from different world regions (see programme in the attachment).

The EU-LAC Foundation will also co-convene or participate in several important side-events to the UNESCO World Higher Education Conference 2022:
