The EU-LAC Foundation participated at the Inauguration of the restored Bolívar Monument in Hamburg

On 21 July 2013 the EU-LAC Foundation participated at the Inauguration of the restored Monument of Simón Bolívar in Hamburg’s Bolívar Park. The event was organised by the Consulate General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela with the support of the Embassy and Consulate Honorary of Columbia, the Consulate General of Ecuador and the Consulate General of Peru. 

During the official inauguration the Consul General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Hamburg, Jaidys Briceño, welcomed the participants and thanked Beatrix Alscher and Stefani Silligmann for the restoration work and to the city of Hamburg. The Consul General reiterated the important significance that Bolívar still has not only for the six countries he liberated, but also for the whole Latin American region.

Ms. Mechthild Führbaum, representing Hamburg’s district Eimsbüttel, and Honorary Consul of Colombia Christian Justus, have also pronounced some welcoming words after which participants were invited to enjoy typical food from the four participant countries, and music by bands from Latin America. Celebrated in a perfect summer day, the overall event expressed the worldwide reputation of Simón Bolívar and the rich cultural life of the Latin American Community in Hamburg and Germany.
