On Tuesday 9 May, the EU-LAC Foundation had the pleasure to participate in the "Long Night of the Consulates 2023", an initiative in the headquarters city of the International Organisation, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
The activity of the "Lange Nacht der Konsulate" (its official German name) annually invites consulates and other international organisations residing in Hamburg to open their doors to the general public. During the evening, the institutions showcase their countries and their work through concerts, lectures, illustrated tours, cultural performances and culinary displays. This year, 23 consulates and other cultural institutions within the city participated in the event.
Traditionally, the EU-LAC Foundation invites its members to represent their countries in its office space within the framework of this event. In this edition of the event, the EU-LAC Foundation had for the first time the pleasure to participate within the premises of the Consulate General of Argentina in Hamburg, next to the Hamburg City Hall building. Thus, more than 500 attendees were able to enjoy Argentinean food and wine samples, buy handicrafts, attend concerts and Tango dances, as well as learn about the work of the International Organisation.
In this edition we had the visit of Senator Andy Grote, from the Hamburg Ministry of Interior and Sport, testifying the constant support of the Hamburg Senate to the work of the EU-LAC Foundation since its creation in 2011. Together with our Executive Director, Dr Adrian Bonilla and the Argentinean Vice Consul, Mariano Pagliettini, they strengthened the ties of cooperation and highlighted the importance of cultural events to make diversity visible within the city.
The Hamburg Senate actively participates in projects initiated and promoted by the EU-LAC Foundation, such as the annual "Latin American and Caribbean Fall Festival" in Hamburg, which will take place for the tenth time in 2023.
