Webinar: "Water related disaster risk management in changing climate"

The EU-LAC Foundation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, with Bled Strategic Forum, together with Global Water Partnership Slovenia are pleased to present the webinar “Water related disaster risk management in changing climate”. The event will take place virtually on November 22th as part of the Slovenian LAC Days.

Different parts of the world suffer unevenly from the effects of climate change. The vulnerability of local environments and the economy due to climate change and a variety of water related issues, from natural hazards to water management is increasing. In particular, the Caribbean as a region has a very high level of risk associated with natural hazards, which originate significant negative impacts on their economic and social development. The ambition of the panel is to identify the climate adaptation needs in different aspects of water and discover cooperation potentials in remote sensing and climate data exploitation for improved disaster risk management and water source protection.

This issue has been considered a priority in the EU-LAC agenda, as stated most recently in the Joint Communiqué of the EU27 - Latin America and Caribbean Informal Ministerial Meeting, held on 14.12.2020 .Furthermore, the establishment in Panama of a data centre for the Copernicus Project of the EU is one concrete example of the exchange and sharing of information, know-how, research, and data for the stronger prevention of climate disasters that can benefit the Caribbean. Both technology and cooperation, as well as financing, can lead to the development of solutions for the enhanced protection of citizens, especially those most vulnerable.
