The war we have not seen - A historical memory project

The 90 paintings included in this exhibition were created by men and women who participated in Colombia´s war. They belonged to paramilitary and guerrilla organizations, or to the Ejército Nacional. All 35 participants were rank and file soldiers currently demobilized either under the Ley de Justicia y Paz (Justice and Peace Law), or because they deserted or were wounded in combat.

They spent two years painting their personal experiences, illustrating the rural tragedy, the plundering of land and the forced displacement; witnessing the involvement of drug traffickers, revealing the cruelty, capturing the painful repertoire of violence in Colombia, which for years has played out alongside daily life, blending in with normality.
