Universidad de Oriente

The Universidad de Oriente "UNIVO" was founded by a group of visionary businessmen from San Miguel city, on October 30, 1981, as an alternative for higher education for the community in the eastern part of the country. UNIVO started its academic work on the third of february of 1982 with 554 students. It was born as a public utility corporation, of a secular character, non profit.
Its main activity is educational services at the higher level and is governed by the Higher Education Act. It may not intervene in religious or political activities of any kind. Its basic functions are: Teaching, Research and Social Projection.
Legal Framework
The Universidad de Oriente is a public utility corporation, permanent, nonprofit, empowered by the laws of the Republic of El Salvador, as an institution of higher education, dedicated to the academic formation of careers with multidisciplinary studies in the sciences, arts and techniques, based on the following legal basis:

LEGAL PERSONNEL, granted by the Ministry of the Interior, through Agreement No. 486, dated November 3, 1982, published in Official Journal No. 66, Volume 222 dated December 2, 1982.
OPERATING AUTHORIZATION, granted by the Ministry of Education, through Agreement No. 536, dated February 29, 1984, published in the Official Gazette No. 66, volume 283, dated April 2, 1984.
CURRENT STATUTES (Reformed), approved by the Ministry of Education, through Agreement No. 15036432 dated 15 March 2006, published in the Official Gazette No. 66, volume 371, dated 4 April 2006.
