Since 2012, the IdA and the Fondation EU-LAC have supported in various ways the consolidation of an EU-CELAC Common Higher Education Area. The IdA has been a decisive actor, for example, in the creation of the Permanent Academic Forum (FAP EU-LAC), an entity with which the IdA has participated in this collective work and organized several 5 bi-regional Academic Summits between 2013 and 2023. Together, the EU-LAC FAP and the IdA also contributed to the “Matrix of objectives and strategic lines for the construction of the EU-CELAC Common Higher Education Area” (English and Spanish version) that the EU-LAC Foundation launched from 2017.
This year, the joint objective of the IdA and the EU-LAC Foundation is to capitalize on past initiatives, strengthen institutional synergies - in particular with the Joint Initiative for Research and Innovation (JIRI) - and build on the declarations of the 5th EU-CELAC Summit on research and innovation.
