Social Protest and Democratic Responsiveness: Realities in Latin America & the Caribbean and the European Union

The EU-LAC Foundation together with the German Institute of Global and Regional Studies (GIGA) invite you to a discussion on Social Protest and Democratic Responsiveness: Realities in Latin America & the Caribbean and the European Union.

In recent years, social protests have marked political life in Latin America as much as in Europe. While some have responded to economic crisis and austerity measures, others have protested unfair distribution and corruption in economic boom phases – both sides of the Atlantic have seen social mobilisation.

The panel will discuss the diverse experiences of social protest and democratic responses in Latin America, the Caribbean and in Europe and ask for the implications of these for democratic politics in both these world regions.
