Scottish Human Rights Commission

The Commission works on a range of legal, policy and practical issues that affect people's human rights in Scotland. It coordinates and supports the delivery, with a wide range of partners, of Scotland's National Action Plan for Human Rights (SNAP). SNAP is an ambitous roadmap towards a Scotland where everyone can live with human dignity. Within SNAP, work is taking place to improve human rights when it comes to health and social care, poverty and the right to an adequate standard of living and access to justice. More broadly, the Commission does a lot of work around disability and human rights issues, particularly when it comes to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The Commission has also been heavily involved in work to secure access to justice for survivors of historic abuse. The Commission also works as a bridge between human rights in Scotland and theinternational human rights system. We are accredited as an 'A Status' national human rights institution, which means we report directly to the UN on human rights issues that affect people's lives in Scotland.
