On June 6th, Romania deposited its instrument of ratification of the Constitutive Agreement that establishes the EU-LAC Foundation as an International Organisation, thus attesting its commitment to promoting the bi-regional partnership, mutual knowledge and understanding between the European Union, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
To this day, 41 members have realised the deposit of the corresponding ratification instrument according to the requirements in article 25. With this ratification, Romania becomes the 23rd Member State of the EU to ratify the Agreement, testifying its recognition of the Foundation’s new status to accomplish the objectives and mandates its Member States entrusted it with more significantly.
Since the entry into force of the Constitutive Agreement on May 17th of 2019, the Foundation operates as an international organisation, as intended by the Heads of State and Government of the 61 Member States of the European Union, Latin America, and the Caribbean, and of the European Union itself.
Authoritative information on the status of the Constitutive Agreement, including information on signatories to the Agreement, ratification and entry into force, is provided by the European Union through the General Secretariat of the Council, which can be accessed here.
