Progress in the Promotion of the International Governance of Migrations

Migration is a key issue on the political agenda of the twenty-first century. At global level major changes have been achieved in recent years, among which is the incorporation of migration into the Sustainable Development Objectives. Nevertheless, a coherent formal framework is still needed and the IOM itself does not have a mandate to create international standards of a binding nature. For further progress, we must develop an integrated and sustainable response over the long-term, approved by the Global Compact, for safe, regular and orderly migration in 2018. Read paper
