On October 25th, Portugal submitted to the depository the ratification instrument of the agreement that transforms the EU-LAC Foundation into an International Organisation. Thereby, it became the twelfth EU Member State to do so and the eighteenth overall. The ratification of the Foundation’s Establishment Agreement contributes to its strengthening as an instrument for the bi-regional association. Portugal has constantly been committed to the reinforcement of the relations between the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean and of the Foundation as one of its tools, also contributing regularly to its budget.
The EU-LAC Foundation has been operating with transitory status under the German civil law since November 2011, hence the swift and complete ratification of the Agreement will allow it to be recognised as a genuine biregional organisation and to be better equipped for the fulfilment of its ambitious mandate. The threshold for the entry into force of the Agreement is eight ratifications from each region.

Portugal ratifica o Acordo que institui a Fundação Internacional EU-LAC
No dia 25 de Outubro, Portugal depositou o instrumento de ratificação do Acordo que transforma a Fundação EU-LAC numa organização internacional, sendo assim o décimo segundo da UE em ratificar este acordo e o décimo oitavo em geral. A ratificação do Acordo de instalação da Fundação contribui para o seu fortalecimento como instrumento da parceria birregional. Portugal tem mostrado o seu compromisso constante para o fortalecimento das relações entre a União Europeia, América Latina e as Caraíbas e da própria Fundação como um dos seus instrumentos, ao contribuir de forma frequente para o seu orçamento.
A Fundação EU-LAC tem vindo a funcionar com um estatuto transitório de acordo com a legislação civil alemã desde Novembro de 2011, portanto a rápida e total ratificação do Acordo permitirá que a Fundação seja reconhecida como uma organização birregional autêntica e esteja melhor preparada para o cumprimento do seu ambicioso mandato. O patamar para a entrada em vigor do Acordo é de oito ratificações por cada região.
