Panel Discussion on New Impulses for the EU-LAC Strategic Partnership

On 20 February 2013, Info-Point Europa, Europa-Union Hamburg and the EU-LAC Foundation, with the support of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, co-organised a panel discussion with the title “New impulses for the strategic partnership between the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean” at Steigenberger Hotel in Hamburg.

Four regional experts shared the podium: Roland Schäfer, the new Director for the Americas at the European External Action Service, Prof Detlef Nolte, acting President of the GIGA Institute, Christoph G. Schmitt, Executive Director of the Lateinamerika Verein, and Dr Bettina Trueb, Researcher at the EU-LAC Foundation. The discussion was moderated by Thomas Stölting, President of the Europa-Union Hamburg.

Main topics included the last EU-CELAC Summit in Santiago de Chile in January 2013, economic growth in Latin America as well as related alterations in bi-regional relations. Panellists also reflected on possibilities to deepen and extend the strategic partnership through better coordination of policies in the economic, political, social and academic sector.
