The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama and the EU-LAC Foundation for Interregional Dialogue joined in the commemoration of the Bicentennial of the Independence of Hispanic America around a discussion with a past and a future: multilateralism and the Bolivarian ideology of a society of nations.

Three renowned lecturers and experts on Latin Americanism, Natalia Sobrevilla from Peru, Salvador Sánchez from Panama and Joshua Simon from the United States of America, joined a long-running debate on the constitutionalist initiatives of the 19th century, their influence on the formation of American nations and the historical role of Panama, a country determined socio-politically by its geographical location.

The virtual conference aimed to reflect on the republican experiences and democratic processes of our nations, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of independence and with a view to the pending development and transformations that the region still requires.

Active cooperation and the transfer of knowledge between the two regions were part of the collaborative processes of integral development encouraged by this meeting, which will have a second part in 2022.
