Mission of the EU-LAC Foundation to Mexico

The President of the EU-LAC Foundation, Leonel Fernández Reyna and the Executive Director, Paola Amadei will be in Mexico to participate in meetings with national authorities and to participate in academic and cultural events.

During the visit to Mexico City, from November 21st to 23rd, the Executive Director will hold meetings with the Secretary for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Luis Alfonso de Alba; and with the General Director of the Matías Romero Institute of the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Natalia Saltalamacchia Ziccardi. The agenda also includes meetings with the Head of Delegation of the European Union to Mexico, Ambassador Klaus Rudischhauser as well as with Enrique Cabrero Mendoza, General Director of the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT). 

The agenda will be carried out aiming at discussing topics of interest and identifying possible synergies within the framework of bi-regional relations.

From the 24th to 26th of November, the President Leonel Fernández and the Executive Director will be in Guadalajara to participate in the International Conference of the National Association of Universities and Institutions of Higher Education (ANUIES), an association that brings together 187 universities and higher education institutions, both public and private throughout the country.

In Guadalajara, they will also participate in the International Colloquium ‘Which kind of universities does the 21st century need? From the student reform of Cordoba (1918) to Guadalajara proposal (2017)’, organised by the University Institute of Research in Latin American Studies of the University of Alcalá and the University of Guadalajara. The Colloquium will address, almost 100 years after the student reform in Córdoba, the need to rethink the role of universities not only as training centres for competent professionals, but also as institutions that promote critical thinking with a global and interdisciplinary perspective. The President of the EU-LAC Foundation will discuss the subject with the Rector of the University of Guadalajara, Tonatiuh Bravo, and the Rector of the University of Córdoba, Hugo Juri.

The participation of the EU-LAC Foundation in this Colloquium is part of its commitment to support the bi-regional cooperation in the CELAC-EU Higher Education Area.

In the framework of this official visit, the President and the Executive Director of the EU-LAC Foundation will participate at the opening ceremony of the Guadalajara International Book Fair.
