Meeting of the EU-LAC Foundation with Visegrád countries

On 28 and 29 October 2012 the President of the EU-LAC Foundation, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, and its Executive Director, Jorge Valdez, had a meeting with government officials from the Visegrád Group. The meeting, that took place in Prague, was organized in order to promote the EU-LAC Foundation’s work and objectives in the Central and Eastern European countries.

Benita Ferrero-Waldner underlined that the importance of the bi-regional relationship is great even during a difficult economic period like this one, arguing that “Rather than a threat, the current crisis must be an opportunity for both parties to come up with ideas on how to tackle common global challenges”.

Member of the European Parliament and the Czech representative in EuroLat, Edvard Kožušník, who took the initiative to organize the meeting, stressed that: “It is an extraordinary opportunity for economic cooperation between Czech companies that wish to be established in destinations in Latin America and Caribbean countries”.

Jorge Valdez cited the main goals of the EU-LAC Foundation, which are: promoting the debate between the two regions on topics of common interest; engaging the civil societies with the intergovernmental process; making the bi-regional relation visible to the interested actors.
