Italy ratifies the Agreement that establishes the EU-LAC Foundation as an International Organisation

On February 22, Italy deposited its instrument of ratification of the Constitutive Agreement that establishes the EU-LAC Foundation as an International Organisation, thus attesting its commitment to promoting the dialogue between the European Union, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

With this ratification, Italy becomes the 40th Member to ratify the Agreement, testifying its recognition of the Foundation’s new status to accomplish the objectives and mandates its Member States entrusted it with. The Foundation and its activities feed into the intergovernmental dialogue, in line with the bi-regional Action Plan. Italy has supported the Foundation significantly at its early stages through earmarked contributions to support projects related to competitiveness, SMEs and industrial maps, thus attesting its commitment to promote the strategic partnership between both regions. The ratification demonstrates Italy’s willingness to advance cooperation with the Foundation in the future.

Since the entry into force of the Constitutive Agreement on May 17th of 2019, the Foundation operates as an international organisation, as intended by the Heads of State and Government of the 61 Member States of the European Union, Latin America, and the Caribbean, and of the European Union itself.
