In the island of Antigua seminar on emigrants‘ policies in the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean and bilateral meetings with national authorities

This Seminar on Emigrants’ policies in Latin America and the Caribbean was organised by the EU-LAC Foundation in cooperation with the University of West Indies, the GIGA Institute and Universities Caribbean. It took place on 14 and 15 January 2020 in the new UWI Five Islands Campus, with the support of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.

The aim of this conference was to discuss good practices and experiences connecting emigrants and countries of origin in particular from the Caribbean and Central America considering themes such as citizenship, political participation, social security and remittances.

This conference brought together diverse  perspectives from academia, government, international organisations, private sector and diaspora organisations. 

During the stay in Antigua the Executive Director of the EU-LAC Foundation, had a meeting with the Prime Minister, Honorable Gaston Browne and with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honorable Chet Greene. The focus on the discussion was on the participation of Antigua and Barbuda in the activities of the Foundation and on the process of accession of the country to the Constitutive Agreement of the Foundation, expected to be completed in February.
