Hamburg’s Long Evening of the Consulates

On the 21st of May 2015, the EU-LAC Foundation participated for third consecutive time in the “Long Night of the Consulates”. The City of Hamburg originally set out the Long Night to encourage consulates and international entities to open their doors after office hours to visitors and offer information about their work and an insight into their respective countries.

In an effort to include and give visibility to the Caribbean countries that do not have consular representation in Hamburg, the EU-LAC Foundation made particular emphasis on including the richness of Caribbean foods, arts and local products in its cultural programme for the Long Nights. Thus, on that night, the EU-LAC Foundation’s headquarters served as cultural hub to the tropical sub-region.

The cultural programme, themed “The Caribbean Visits Hamburg”, included the performance of the Caribbean Unlimited Orchestra from Trinidad and Tobago, dancing lessons by Jamaican instructor Chris Icon, in addition to Caribbean Rum degustation and a presentation of the diverse varieties and flavours of cacao that the Caribbean has to offer. Finger food and courtesy drinks were also offered throughout the event, free and open to all.
