France Ratifies the Agreement that Establishes the EU-LAC Foundation as an International Organisation

On November 29th, France submitted to the depositary the ratification instrument of the Foundation’s Establishment Agreement that transforms the EU-LAC Foundation into an International Organisation.

France thus attests its continuous compromise to reinforce bi-regional association through equipping the Foundation with the necessary status and recognition to more significantly accomplish the objectives that its Member States entrusted it with. Moreover, this ratification, which is the fourteenth from a EU Member State and the twentieth overall, contributes to the strengthening of the relations between the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The threshold for the entry into force of the Agreement is eight ratifications from each region. Since November 2011, the EU-LAC Foundation has been operating with transitory status under the German civil law; hence a rapid and effective ratification of the Agreement will allow it to more duly fulfil its ambitious mandate.
