The European Union ratifies the Agreement that establishes the EU-LAC Foundation as an International Organisation

On April 17th, the European Union deposited its instrument of ratification of the Constitutive Agreement that establishes the EU-LAC Foundation into an International Organisation. This ratification marks the completion of the requirements established under article 25 of the Agreement, according to which the Agreement “shall enter into force after eight Parties of each region, including the Federal Republic of Germany and the EU, have deposited their respective instruments of ratification or accession with the depositary.”

With this ratification, a significant milestone in the history of the Foundation is achieved, as it allows the Foundation to operate as a genuine international organisation at the service of its Members. The European Union has continuously supported the Foundation ever since its establishment in 2011 because of the important role that it plays in promoting the partnership between the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Constitutive Agreement will entry into force on May 17th.
