The European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean vis-à-vis the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – The Environmental Big Push

This publication is a result of the joint work between CEPAL, as strategic partner of the EU-LAC Foundation and with the support of the European Commission as well as the approval of the CELAC pro tempore Presidency, with the aim to strengthen the bi-regional relationship.

The paper serves as a contribution for the Foreign Minister Summit of the Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union (EU), which will be held in Santo Domingo 25th to 27th of October 2016.

This document available to the Foreign Ministers, presents a panorama of the actual situation and recommendations for strengthening the opportunities on economic, productive, social and environmental topics of EU and CELAC Member States. Its aim is to prepare a more detailed document, which serves for the next Head of State Bi-regional Summit, taking in account the debates emerging in Santo Domingo and strengthening the continuity of the joint work for the future.

Starting from the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the Agenda 2030, the goal is to look for a significant environmental impulse, which allows evolving towards a structural change in the bi-regional zone.
