The International EU-LAC Foundation held an Extraordinary Meeting of its Governing Board in Montevideo, bringing together representatives of member states from Latin America, the Caribbean and the European Union to reflect on strengthening the role of the EU-LAC Foundation in supporting the EU-CELAC bi-regional partnership, including the follow-up and implementation of decisions arising from the Summit process.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the results achieved by the EU-LAC Foundation within the framework of the preparatory process for the 4th CELAC-EU Summit held in Santa Marta in 2025, as well as the challenges and opportunities for reinforcing the continuity of political dialogue, multi-stakeholder participation, and the follow-up of priorities agreed by both regions.
The Governing Board highlighted the organisation’s main achievements over the past year, including the organisation of bi-regional dialogue platforms, the preparation of substantive contributions to political discussions, and the promotion of initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation between the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean. Particular recognition was also given to the institution’s ability to connect governments, civil society, young people, academia, the media and other relevant stakeholders.
In his remarks, the President of the EU-LAC Foundation, José Antonio Arróspide del Busto, underlined that the organisation’s principal contribution lies in ensuring the continuity of dialogue and cooperation between the two regions beyond summits and ministerial meetings. He also stressed the importance of strengthening the visibility, institutional sustainability and strategic outreach capacity of the EU-LAC Foundation in order to continue supporting the development of the bi-regional partnership in an increasingly complex international context.
For his part, the Executive Director, Alberto Brunori, emphasised the importance of receiving continuous feedback from the organisation’s Members regarding key issues such as its sustainability, strategic direction and support for the CELAC-EU intergovernmental dialogue.
The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on the future of the organisation and to reaffirm the commitment of member states to strengthening this unique platform for dialogue, cooperation and trust-building between the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean.
