The EU-LAC Foundation at the European Week in Hamburg

Expert discussion on the bi-regional partnership

Within the framework of the European Week in Hamburg, the EU-LAC Foundation opened its doors to the general public on 7 May 2012 to present an expert discussion entitled “Europe and Latin America – do we need each other?”. Dr Karl Buck, former Director for Latin America at the EU Council of Ministers, Dr. Wolf Grabendorff, expert for EU-LAC relations at the Johns Hopkins University’s Paul H. Nitze School for Advanced International Studies, and His Excellency Jorge O’Ryan Schütz, Chilean Ambassador in Berlin, exchanged their views under the moderation of Bettina Trueb, Researcher at the EU-LAC Foundation.

Despite the current challenges of the bi-regional partnership, the discussants agreed that both regions offer one another a great deal of mutual opportunities, including cooperation in the fields of technology and innovation, as well as economic exchange. However, they must make an active effort in order to make the most of these opportunities.
