Dr. Anna Barrera has German and Polish roots. She studied Political Science and Public Law at the Free University of Berlin.

During her doctoral studies in Political Science, undertaken at the Simon Fraser University, the University of Hamburg and GIGA Institute of Latin American Studies, she specialised on Human Rights, Indigenous Peoples, Legal Pluralism and Gender Issues in the Andean Region. In her former positions, Dr. Barrera moved between the scientific sector and international development cooperation. Those positions included the Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) 700 "Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood", the German Research Association on Latin America (ADLAF), the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), Bucerius Law School Hamburg, Episcopal Action Adveniat and GLS Future Foundation for Development. You may communicate with Dr. Barrera in English, Spanish and German; she also has a good understanding of French and Portuguese.
