Since 2013 the dokART initiative shows documentary films from an articistic point of view. In this occasion the documentary "Outro Sertão", about a Brazilian writer João Guimarães Rosa who was sent to Hamburg in 1938 as a diplomat will be exhibited. It is shown a four-year episode of his life between work and vocation. The documentary uses as background the journal of the autor, an unpublished interview with Rosa, archival footage and statements of Jews who helped Rosa leave the country. Whether Rosa’s experience in Hamburg influenced his most famous novel Grande Sertão (1956), is still being debated.
The introduction of the documentary will be given by Prof. Dr. Med. Markus Klaus Schäffauer (University of Hamburg, Institute of Romance Studies) and Soraia Vilela will be the guest of the evening.
