Dialogue between Research Centres and Decision Makers

EULACDIALOGUE

The EU-LAC Foundation and the Carolina Foundation organised a Dialogue between European, Latin-American and Caribbean Research Centres and Decision Makers: “Perspectives and proposals for renewing the Strategic Partnership between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean”, which took place in Madrid on 3 and 4 April 2023.

Ahead of the EU-CELAC Summit of Heads of State and Government, scheduled for the second half of 2023, this meeting aims to generate new impulses and stimulate joint reflections on the revitalisation of the EU-CELAC bi-regional strategic partnership. In addition, the event aimed to exchange on the effects of global challenges for the bi-regional political, economic, social and environmental agenda and the identification of convergences in shared interests, values and principles among the actors that make up the bi-regional partnership.

Likewise, the Dialogue between Research Centres and Decision Makers was aimed at exploring the opportunities that should be seized to broaden and strengthen the programmes and policies that promote EU-CELAC bi-regional cooperation; as well as to reflect on the possible political, economic, social and environmental priorities of the EU-CELAC partnership. The event also contributed to strengthening the role of research centres and study associations from both regions as actors in the bi-regional relationship.

This exchange followed two meetings of research centres and study associations focusing on Latin America and the Caribbean and/or Europe and bi-regional relations, organised by the EU-LAC Foundation in 2022. The first one, held in cooperation with the Ibero-American Institute (IAI) and the GIGA - Institute of Latin American Studies (GIGA-ILAS), brought together representatives of research centres and study associations based in Europe, and whose field of work is the study of Latin America and the Caribbean and/or relations between Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe. The second one, developed in cooperation with the Centro de Estudios Europeos del Ecuador (CEE) of the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), was attended by research centres and study associations based in Latin America and the Caribbean, and whose field of work is European studies and/or relations between Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe.
