Constitutive International Agreement of the EU-LAC Foundation signed

Santo Domingo. Dr. Leonel Fernández, President of the EU-LAC Foundation, lead the ceremony of the signature of the Constitutive International Agreement of the EU-LAC Foundation, which took place during the Foreign Minister Meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union (EU).

The signature of the Agreement was conducted at the Convention Center of the Foreign Ministry in the Dominican Republic, and was attended by Foreign Ministers and Heads of Delegations from the 61 Member States of the bi-regional area, as well as the European Union.

The preamble of the Constitutive Agreement states the need of the creation of an international organisation of intergovernmental nature, subject to the Public International Law, that contributes to the strengthening of the existing obligations between the CELAC and EU Members.

After the signature of this Agreement, and once the necessary ratifications are obtained, the EU-LAC Foundation will officially become an international body of intergovernmental character.
