Closing of the LACalytics Conference in Hamburg

Hamburg. The “LACalytics Conference” launched by the Young Initiative on Foreign Affairs and International Relations (IFAIR e.V)., held from the 22nd and the 25th of October 2016 in Hamburg has finished with a closing ceremony and the presentation of the publication “EU-LAC Cooperation in the 21st Century: Combining efforts in a globalised world”.

The conference was supported by the EU-LAC Foundation and under the patronage of the Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean of the German Federal Foreign Ministry.

The representative of the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg for EU Matters, Hanna Foelke Wanner, opened the conference, presented the initiative and the results of the study.

The editor of Zeit Campus, Laura Cwiertnia moderated a debate between the panelists Dr. Anna Barrera, representing the EU-LAC Foundation, Dr. Mark Heinzel, on behalf of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Wiltrud Kern, on behalf of the German Federal Foreign Office and two of the authors representing LACalytics, Danielle Edwards from Dominica and Claudia Wiese from Germany. 

The conference started with a welcome dinner, where the Executive Director of the EU-LAC Foundation, Paola Amadei, and the Member of the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg for EU Matters, Henrik Lesaar, welcomed the participants.

The next days were dedicated to meetings with specialists in bi-regional relations and a colloquium held by the group of young researchers members of IFAIR, from the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean.

For the meetings with experts four institutions were visited: the weekly newspaper ZEIT Online, represented by Alexandra Endres, the GIGA institute, represented by the scientist Tobías Lenz, the headquarters of Greenpeace, where the expert on sustainable energy Niklas Schinerl held a presentation, and the Consulting Group GFA.
