Chile and the Inter-American Human Rights System (IAHRS)

The UCL Institute of the Americas and the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies organise this one-day conference that aims to cater an international community of human rights practitioners and researchers of the Americas. The event will focus on an interdisciplinary and detailed examination of the most recent cases decided by the Inter American Human Rights System against the Chilean state. The Chilean cases illustrate the central challenges in the areas of Torture, Indigenous Rights and LGBT rights in Chile and the American Continent in general.

The discussions will be held around the cases of Atala Riffo, Garcia Lucero and Norin Catriman vs. Chile. The main speakers will include Rodrigo Céspedes (Manchester), Cath Collins (Ulster) and Par Engstrom (UCL Institute of the Americas) among others.
