Central American Higher Education Council (Consejo Superior Universitario Centroamericano -CSUCA-)

CSUCA is a Central American regional integration institution, part of the official Central American Integration System SICA. It is a long standing organization established in 1948 (71 years old). 
CSUCA’s main aim is to achieve regional integration of the Central American public higher education systems. As part of its mission, CSUCA actively encourage and promote higher education innovation, quality evaluation for improvement and regional academic harmonization. It also promotes and organizes academic and student regional exchange and mobility. As well as  experiences and good practices exchange, debate and collaboration in several common interest matters, such as: scientific research, postgraduate studies management, university-society relationship, higher education internationalization, curriculum innovation, university staff development, quality evaluation and accreditation, university library development, university publishing policies, student welfare and student affairs, etc. 
CSUCA is integrated by the main (public) universities of Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panamá and the Dominican Republic.  CSUCA organizational structure includes the active and systematic participation of university rectors, vice-rectors, general directors, and student representatives of member universities. CSUCA member universities as a whole include about 900,000 students, more than 55,000 university professors, and about 40,000 university administrative staff.  However, CSUCA permanent office in Guatemala have a small staff of 17 people. 
CSUCA has become the unified voice of the main universities of the region.
