In the city of Hamburg, Germany was held last 3rd of October the first “Bridge EU-LAC” solidarity run within the framework of the 6th edition of the Bridge Köhlbrand Run.
The “Bridge EU-LAC” run is a EU-LAC Foundation joint initiative together with the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and the consulates of the European Union, Latin America and Caribbean countries which are located in that city, with the aim to give visibility to the solidarity linkages between Europe and Latin America and Caribbean.
The run over the Köhlbrand Bridge the 3rd of October started as a symbol of the German reunification. With the addition of the “Bridge EU-LAC” run, began also to represent a links between Hamburg, Germany, Europe with the CELAC region.
Thanks to the run, it has been possible to collect more than 10.000 euros. These will be assigned to buy equipment for schools hit by the April earthquake, that struck the coastal region of Esmeraldas in Ecuador.
The consulates of Chile, Ecuador, Panama and Venezuela offered samples of their local products to revitalize the participants after the run.
The Instituto Cervantes, the Goethe Institut and the Instituto Italiano di Cultura drew some grants for the runners, in order to study their respective languages. These institutes, together with the Institut Français participated to the event with an information stand.
Thies Jansen from the company Airbus Company was the fastest runner of the Team EU-LAC, composed by 94 participants, completing the run in 46 minutes and 19 seconds.
This activity was held within the framework of the 3rd Lateinamerikaherbst, a festival that during three months offers, in the city of Hamburg, several cultural activities related to Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Foundation contributes from the outset to the organisation of the Lateinamerika Herbst, and, this year for the first time of the Bridge EU-LAC run thanks to funding of the Federal Foreign Ministry of Germany.
