Book Launch in Berlin: Arica y Parinacota, Cultural Landscape of America

The book "Arica y Parinacota, Cultural Landscape of America“ is going to be launched in Berlin with the support of the German Commission for UNESCO.

The Chilean regions Arica y Parinacota has a rich indigenous culture of the Aymara population and an exceptional cultural and natural heritage in the triangle of Chile, Peru and Bolivia. At the same time it is an arid Andean region away from the main cities. In this context, the Foundation Altiplano has been carrying out projects for the restoration of the local religious buildings (the Baroque churches of the Altiplano), the use of traditional knowledge, the connection between culture and nature in the countryside, and ultimately the improvement of living conditions for the local population.

The current publication documents the activities and results of a multi-year project, which has developed the preservation and enhancement of the natural and cultural heritage of the region through a regional sustainable development strategy with the participation of the local population.

The project was carried out by the Fundación Altiplano and funded by the regional government of Arica y Parinacota within the framework of a funding program.

The book will be presented in English by:

  • Mr. Cristian Heinsen, vice president and Executive Director of Altiplano Foundation and co-author of the book.
