Belize ratifies the Agreement Establishing the EU-LAC Foundation as an international organisation

Belize has deposited its ratification instrument of the Agreement Establishing the EU-LAC Foundation as an international organisation making it the first Member from the CELAC to ratify the Agreement and the second overall after Sweden.

This prompt ratification confirms Belize’s commitment towards the EU-CELAC Strategic Partnership, and signals its trust in the work of the EU-LAC Foundation to strengthen further the relations between the two regions. From its part, the Foundation is thankful for the support and active engagement of the country in its activities.

The threshold for entry into force of the Agreement is eight ratifications from each region. The EU-LAC Foundation has been operating with a transitory status under German civil law since November 2011, yet the swift ratification of the Agreement will allow it to be recognised as a genuine bi-regional organisation and be better equipped for the fulfillment of its ambitious mandate.
