Belgium Ratifies the Agreement that Establishes the EU-LAC Foundation into an International Organisation

On November 8th, the Kingdom of Belgium ratified the agreement that transforms the EU-LAC Foundation into an international organisation, thus becoming the 13th EU Member State to do so and the 19th overall.

The ratification of Belgium, which was preceded by its regular annual contribution to the Foundation’s budget in October, signals its commitment to support the strengthening of the relations between the EU, Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the role of the Foundation as a crucial instrument of the Partnership. In order for the constitutive Agreement to enter into force, eight ratifications from each region are required as a minimum. Since November 2011, the EU-LAC Foundation has been operating with transitory status under the German civil law.
