Asociación de Universidades Grupo Montevideo

The Asociación de Universidades Grupo Montevideo (AUGM) is a network of public, autonomous and self-governing universities in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay that, because of their similarities, share their vocations, their public character, their similarities in academic structures and the equivalence of the levels of their services; characteristics that place them in a position to develop cooperation activities with certain perspectives of viability.
It was created in August 1991 in response to the challenges facing university life in the world. A group of universities and academics understood the need to work for excellence, quality, relevance and to fulfill the tasks that public higher education required.
It was consolidated in the course of the years sharing in a solidary way, academic personnel of maximum qualification, material resources, facilities, equipment, laboratories, libraries, building a common academic space extended, where the obstacles are overcome and the possibilities of action are multiplied.
Objectives:
- To contribute to the strengthening and consolidation of a critical mass of high level human resources, taking advantage of the comparative advantages offered by the capacities installed in the region, namely
- Scientific and technological research, including processes of innovation, adaptation and technology transfer, in strategic areas
- Ongoing training, as part of the integrated development of the populations of the subregion.
- The management structures and functioning of the universities that make up the Association.
- The interaction of its members with society as a whole, disseminating the advances in knowledge that lead to its modernization.
