In the framework of the I EU-CELAC Summit in Santiago de Chile, the EU-LAC Foundation held a Meeting of its Board of Governors at Foreign Ministers' level on 25 January 2013. The meeting was co-chaired by Chilean Foreign Minister Alfredo Moreno and the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Vice President of the European Commission, Baroness Catherine Ashton.

Both reiterated their support for the Foundation. "I am fully committed to supporting and using the Foundation", Catherine Ashton stated. "I hope the Foundation is strongly supported financially and politically by all its Members."
The EU-LAC Foundation's President, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, underlined the Foundation's position "at the service of the societies" of both regions. "We seek to renew our strategic partnership and give it relevance for the future", she stated.
