The Executive Director of the EU-LAC Foundation, Paola Amadei, participated as speaker in the Forum "Italian-Latin American Alliance for the Promotion of Gender Equality", organized by IILA (Italian-Latin American Institute) and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development. This event, chaired by Ricardo Merlo, Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Development of Italy, was attended by prominent authorities from Latin America and the Caribbean, such as Evelyne Sainvil, Minister for the Status of Women and Women's Rights of Haiti, Nilda Romero Santacruz, Minister for Women of Paraguay, as well as vice ministers from Nicaragua, Bolivia and the Dominican Republic. From Europe, Giulia Buongiorno, Minister of Public Administration of Italy, and Edita Hrda, Director for the Americas of the European External Action Service (EEAS) were present.
During this Forum, numerous proposals to strengthen gender equality were discussed, such as the creation of a EU-LAC Alliance for gender equality, or the initiative to analyse development programs with a gender perspective, as well as the commitment to carry out affirmative actions in favour of women in foreign policies. These proposals are debated in the perspective of the next Italy-LAC conference, to be held in December 2019.
