Latvia Ratifies the Agreement Establishing the EU-LAC Foundation as an International Organisation

2017-06-01

Latvia has deposited its ratification instrument of the Agreement Establishing the EU-LAC Foundation as an international organisation making it the third Member to ratify the Agreement.

The swift ratification reiterates Latvia’s commitment and further engagement in the EU-CELAC Strategic Partnership, and signals its trust in the work of the EU-LAC Foundation to strengthen further the relations between the two regions. Indeed this year the Foundation is dedicating one line of activity for awareness-raising to the Baltic states and is with delight that one can see one of these Members among the first three to ratify the Agreement.

The threshold for entry into force of the Agreement is eight ratifications from each region. The EU-LAC Foundation has been operating with a transitory status under German civil law since November 2011, yet the swift ratification of the Agreement will allow it to be recognised as a genuine bi-regional organisation and be better equipped for the fulfillment of its ambitious mandate.
