Antigua and Barbuda accedes to the Agreement that establishes the EU-LAC Foundation as an International Organisation

Antigua and Barbuda acceded to the Constitutive Agreement of the EU-LAC International Foundation, becoming the 18th State of Latin America and the Caribbean to have either ratified or acceded to the agreement.

This accession together with the support provided in the organisation of the Seminar “Emigrant policies in the Caribbean and Central America: Migration at the crossroads between Europe and Latin America”, held in St Johns, Antigua on January 14-15th, manifests Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to the bi-regional association between the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean, and testifies its recognition of the Foundation’s new status to more significantly accomplish the objectives and mandates its Member States entrusted it with.

The EU-LAC Foundation was entrusted with the mission of strengthening and promoting the strategic bi-regional relationship, enhancing its visibility and fostering active participation of the respective civil societies. The Foundation is a tool of the EU-LAC partnership and its activities feed into the intergovernmental dialogue, in line with the bi-regional Action Plan.

Since the entry into force of the Constitutive Agreement on May 17th, the Foundation operates as an international organisation, as intended by the Heads of State and Government of the 61 Member States of the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the European Union itself, and is financed through voluntary contributions from its Members. The Foundation is established in Hamburg, Germany, since 2011.
