Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Goals in the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean

14 February 2019

This report is part of the work carried out by the EU-LAC Foundation with the aim of promoting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as one of the main topics in the bi-regional dialogue between the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Specifically, one of the objectives is to report on progress in the development of National Action Plans (NAPs) on CSR and Human Rights and Business, promoted in the Declarations of the Summits of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (EU-CELAC), held in Santiago de Chile in 2013 and in Brussels in 2015. On that occasion, fundamental guidelines were drawn up for the development of policies that promote CSR, the importance of corporate social action, social dialogue, and the drawing up of these plans to promote good business conduct.
The report includes an Executive Summary, which contains the main results of the study. The rest of the document is organised as follows: Section 1 presents the objectives and methodology of the research, a mapping of networks promoting CSR in both regions and describes the entities and organisations that are part of the bi-regional working group. Section 2 presents the most interesting results and findings of the analysis carried out for Latin America and the Caribbean, making some comparisons and comments with respect to the countries studied in the European Union. The results of the analysis of the dimensions studied for each sub-region of the study (Southern Cone, Andean Region, Central America, Caribbean and European Union) are included in sections 3 to 7.
